A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.
It was nearly midnight as Sienna walked home from Jinto's pub. A thick jacket was wrapped around her arms and body, not showing the Jinto's logo on her shirt. Her shift was finally over. Friday nights were always busy and Sienna was thankful that her boss let her get off early. Her thick blond hair was slicked back into a high ponytail and as she walked it bobbed up an down. Sienna lived no more then a couple of blocks from Jinto's and even when the weather was cold she usually walked.
She dug into her coat pocket and pulled out her tiny silver house key. Getting to the door, she stuck the key in and turned it. A rush of warm air hit her in the face. Who turned on the hot air? Sienna had remembered turning everything off before she left and she didn't have to worry about Jack being in the cold. She walked into the living room to check the thermostat when she saw that the fireplace was roaring and sprawled across the couch was her fox red Labrador Retriever.
"Hey, boy!" Sienna called to him. She had no one, but this dog. She had no brothers or sisters, her parents were killed when she was fourteen, her aunt lived in New York City, and Jack was the only thing she had. He wasn't even human, but Sienna didn't care. Jack was still a loving dog that worshiped her. And she loved Jack too. He always seemed to know how she felt and he seemed to try to comfort her. Sienna told herself again and again that Jack couldn't understand her, but he always seemed to.

Jack jumped off the couch and bounded over to Sienna. God, she's beautiful. And I'm only her dog, but I'll always be here for her. But she'll notice as I don't get any older. She'll notice how my face never gets white hairs on it. What will happen then? When I outlive her...? Jack thought to himself while jumping up on Sienna and putting his paws on her shoulders. He stared at her face. A normal dog would pant, lick your face, maybe even bark, but Jack just stared at her right in the eyes. He didn't even wag his tail.

Sienna had noticed months ago that Jack rarely barked, he didn't lick, and he didn't do regular dog things. Sienna didn't feed him regular dog food, he refused to eat it. He usually ate what she ate and Sienna never thought a thing of it. Here was her beloved dog staring at her right in the eyes. "Jack...what is it?"

Jack spoke, but it came out as a whimpery rumble. "You're so beautiful, Si." He nudged her face with his wet, black nose and turned his head to the side, perking his ears. He dropped back down to the ground on his paws and pranced into the bedroom where he usually slept. Occasionally, he was allowed to sleep on the foot of the bed instead of the hard floor. He pushed off the ground and leapt onto the bed before Sienna could make him sleep on the floor.

"No, JACK!" But it was too late. She walked in the bedroom and Jack was already sitting on the edge of the bed. "Okay, okay. Fine." Sienna laughed and crawled under the sheets. It looked to her like Jack was already asleep at the bottom of the bed. Even though that she had Jack, life was still a little lonely. Sienna didn't know what it was like to be in love, she had had one boyfriend in highschool, but it didn't last long due to Sienna's depression after her parent's death. I need to find someone...

Jack wasn't asleep yet. He looked over his shoulder at Sienna, who he sometimes called Si when thinking to himself. Hopefully it will all work. I wish it would work between us. I hope she realizes what I am loves me anyway.... Jack heard a small clap of thunder outside and knowing that some dogs were scared of storms, he scooted up closer to Sienna.

Sienna drifted to sleep smiling. She didn't know that all she ever need was right beside her. She draped her arm over Jack and petted him. " 'Night, boy."Sienna yawned sleepily. Morning would bring new feelings.

You are the one, the one that lies close to me.
Jack awoke to the sound of tweeting outside the window. The sound wasn't as loud as usual, but he payed no attention to the frequency of bird noises. For a moment he woke up and glanced at the clock. The green numbers flashed 6:34. Jack just turned over and wrapped an arm around Sienna, a very human thing to do, Jack didn't even realized what he had done and what would happen next.

Sienna was only half awake in the first place. She had woken up, but was too tired to even move. She lied there thinking of her previous dream when she noticed there was an arm around her. Her first reaction was to start thrashing. She started kicking and thrashing her arms around. When she whipped head around, she was face to face with a man not much older then she was. His floppy hair hung in the way of his eyes...his aqua eyes. Sienna jumped for the phone, by instinct. "Who in the hell are you?!" It didn't occur to her that Jack, her dog was no where around.

As he jumped out of bed, he instinctively pulled the sheets with him. At first he didn't realize he was human until he saw that he was holding sheets around him...with hands. "Woah...Sienna what the...how'd I?" His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. THIS hadn't happened before. Jack didn't even know it was possible for him shift in his sleep.
